I was called by Reid Long who would direct a film of the performance during two special shows at the Pinnacle in Nashville. He asked me to create drawings that would visually relate to the storyline of each of the songs that, together, formed a musical suite. This dates back to 2008 when I worked with director Trey Fanjoy to storyboard a music video for a rising young star named Taylor Swift. Trey was great to work with as she meticulously planned each shot in pre-production and I strived to capture her vision with my storyboard, combining ‘modern’ and fantasy sequences. This storyboard is from a treatment by director Jeff Venable for Audio Technica ANC-9 Quietpoint headphones. Jeff and I discussed each of the set-ups and the framing as the witless main character goes through his day believing nobody can hear what he is saying because he can’t hear any of the intrusive sounds around him, thanks to these amazing noise-canceling headphones he is wearing – until his shocking moment of realization!

Guitars for Vets ( G4V ) serves at-risk US veterans impacted by PTSD and other service-related trauma, putting the healing power of music in their hands. Ford Trucks joined with Gibson Guitars to publicize the program and Luke Combs volunteered to participate in the ad campaign. I was brought in to storyboard the shoot. Note that the script had not been finalized at that time so no dialog is indicated on the storyboard.

Gaylord Resorts operates a number of lush destination-style hotels, including Gaylord Opryland in Nashville. For this project, Gaylord partnered with Dreamworks and TV commercials were planned for the promotion at the Texan Resort. Nathan wanted to create very dramatic and sensual visual effect of the whiskey being poured from the bottle and the process of lighting the wood chips, filling the cloche with smoke to create the resulting cocktail. This storyboard was for a long-form commercial that would be posted online, with the option for a shorter version edited for TV. It featured actor/singer Easton Corbin and was a mini rom-com that revolved around a young woman sneaking out of her house to meet her boyfriend. It had a music video vibe but needed to show the Ram pickup as the true hero. Most of the action was to take place at dusk or night so crew needed to refer to the storyboard to pre-plan lighting setup. T

The script for this episode called for Will (Chris Carmack) and Gunnar (Sam Palladio) to 'play chicken' with a CSX freight train while driving in a pickup truck. The producers knew this was potentially a very dangerous sequence and needed to plan it down to the last detail. The pickup, with Will and Gunnar inside, would be seen driving at high speed down a road toward a railroad crossing while a CSX train was about to go across the road.
